Las Americas Co-operative Homes Inc. is located at 1185 Vanrose Street, which is close to shopping schools, public transportation and is located 2.5 Km from the 403 HWY and 5.3 KM away from Square One Shopping Center. The Co-op was built and incorporated in 1993. Las Americas is a 7-story building consisting of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units, 6 of which are accessible. The Co-op provides both market and subsidized rental units.
Las Americas maintains a recreation room with a full kitchen, laundry facility, underground parking. With easy and convenient access to transit, schools, shopping and three major highways, Las Americas is an ideal place to call home.
The co-operative is governed under the Co-operative Corporations Act of Ontario; therefore, the residents are members not tenants, who pay a housing charge, not rent. The Board of Directors is comprised of 8 members whose job is to oversee the management of the co-operative. The Board is responsible for the hiring of the management company who are responsible for the day to day operations.
There are many kinds of co-operatives: food co-ops, co-op daycares, credit unions, retail co-ops, worker co-ops, agriculture co-ops and housing co-ops. Any group of people can form a co-operative. The members own the co-operative and the co-operative provides a service they need.
